Mobile tasters project - Mobile services to accelerate business and ease everyday life

Mobile value added services applicable to company and governmental communication to interest groups have been available for some time. Demand and usage, however, have been less extensive than first assumed.

The purpose of the Mobile tasters project was to test existing technology in practice (such as text messages), to create example services for the use of companies, communities and public players for marketing and information distribution as well as control and security services, to monitor different implementation and funding models in parallel, to gather feedback and to further develop best practices.

The project was planned to consist of sub-projects in which operators and other platform testers would test their own services in collaboration with partners of their choice.

However, the project progressed no further than the initial stages. But why? All parties agreed that the basic idea was sound. Complications originated elsewhere and included a weak aptitude for cooperation, a lack of trust and differing corporate cultures. In addition, the timing wasn’t the best possible as the company partners were struggling with their own financial and human resources problems.

The project’s lesson was that even a good idea doesn’t always fly, especially if companies don’t consider it to have business potential. The companies involved would have wanted to see matters taken closer to consumers.
