An active and participating citizenship, new service innovations

The government’s promise to citizens in the eTampere programme was to develop public online services and bring them within reach of everyone, strengthen skills related to the use of online services, and to use data networks to promote citizens’ opportunities to influence decisions that affect them and participate in the development of their hometown.

The promise was well fulfilled. There are numerous different kinds of services in citizens’ use, some also in electronic form. Access to services was improved, there are more than 140 free-of-charge online access points at the disposal of citizens. Skills in the use of electronic services were raised through increased training, starting from the basics in the use of a computer and online services. Active cooperation within eTampere’s trainer network also boosted training resources. Thousands of citizens were trained aboard the Netti-Nysse internet bus alone.

eTampere-initiated cooperation between business, research and government has introduced new possibilities to the city’s activities.
