High-standard, multidisciplinary research, the transfer of research knowledge into product development, products and services

The promise of the eTampere programme was to promote the building of a knowledge society based on active citizenship and innovative business activity by means of multidisciplinary research and development activities and training. Other objectives included analysing problems concerning the efficient utilization of information technology and promoting the growth of the related expertise in university units in Tampere, and the transfer of leading-edge research into essential future technologies to companies.

It is vital to utilize research knowledge in the process of generating new services and enhancing business. The eTampere programme has influenced cooperation in a positive manner. Stable background communities, the programme’s extensiveness and the courage to work collaboratively have introduced new ideas to research and its utilization. The academic world’s understanding of the business world and vice versa has expanded. The city has received valuable research support for the development of citizens’ online services.

The continuation of cooperation between business, research and government is important for research, too. Cooperation leads to greater success in the production of knowledge, encourages researchers to revitalize science through new and productive perspectives and helps focus on quality rather than quantity.
