Tampere – from factory shadows to the radiance of eTampere
Many unprejudiced projects have been implemented in Tampere with great success. In many aspects the city has held a position at the European and global forefront, from the electric light lit in the Finlayson factory to the Communicator developed by Nokia.
The first big initiative of the new Millennium was the eTampere knowledge society programme. The aim of the five-year programme was to transform Tampere into the world’s leading city in the research, development and application of knowledge society by strengthening the knowledge base, creating new business activity and introducing new public online services.
How well did it succeed, were new lights lit, was there radiance?
