eTampere builds the well-being of the future

eTampere steps into future

The common objective of the eTampere programme is to make Tampere the world´s leading city in the research, development and application of the knowledge society. The ocjective is tough, but the prerequisites exist. The eTampere urban region accommondates strong, world-class research in information technology and communication, innovative business and the ability to work in cooperation.

- Particular attention is paid to how citizens can actively participate in the building of a fair knowledge society and how they can utilize the new services in their daily lives.

- Through research, a user-oriented approach that takes different user groups into consideration is achieved for the development of services. The latest research knowledge and education that anticipates the future also serve to promote business.

- The emergence and growth of new enterprises is promoted by increasing well-timed financing and by developing new business models. New business and new jobs forward the well-being of all citizens.

Strong link with strategy of the Tampere Region
The eTampere programme is strongly linked with the business strategy of the Tampere Urban Region and the province development strategy. The programme will be carried through in close co-operation with the Tampere Region centre of expertise programme. There is also an interface to the Hervanta EU project for improving the Knowledge Society skills of citizens.

Origins in the eEurope initiative
The European model for eTampere is the eEurope programme launched in December 1999. For eEurope, the eTampere undertaking will provide an extensive and possibly the first local application. Where eEurope builds the Knowledge Society for an entire continent, eTampere builds the future welfare of Tampere citizens.
