Welcome to eTampere

The pilot for the eEurope is widely known for its bold and successful ventures. In many issues, Tampere has been one of the European leaders and even world leaders. From the first electrical light at the Finlayson factory to the Communicator developed by Nokia. The high-level expertise of the universities, research institutes and technology centres supports business in the area.

The eTampere programme, a five-year development project (2001-2005) costing 132 million euros, will open the new millennium. Its general objective is to make Tampere a global leader in the research, development and application of issues related to the Knowledge Society.

The programme is an extensive collaborate project to which the local educational and research institutes, businesses, organisations and communities contribute their own expertise and input.

eTampere consentrates on three themes:

1) Network services that ease citizen´s daily lives are developed and brought within reach of everyone

2) The foundation of expertise in research and education is strengthened

3) New innovative business is created

The eTampere programme consist of six sub-programmes:

Information Society Institute (ISI)
eBusiness Research Center (eBRC)
Research and Evaluation Laboratory (RELab)
eAccelerator
Technology engine programmes
Infocity

and the programme is co-ordinated by eTampere office
