eTampere program - eTampere and media - Analysis
An analysis of eTampere commentary in the printed media
A moderate amount was written about eTampere throughout its duration and distributed quite evenly over the years despite a slight downturn towards the end. Most of the commentary was given exposure by the region’s own media, but eTampere was also considered newsworthy on the national level.
eTampere’s media coverage was generally positive: 70 percent of writings were neutral and 16 percent positive. Less than ten percent had a critical stance towards eTampere. The result is interesting when considering that many of eTampere’s active players have felt over the years that media coverage has been excessively critical and even hindered the programme’s progress.
Hopes were high at the outset but there were only promises in the air. This may be why during the early stages there were more negative commentaries. As the programme advanced, the proportion of positive writings increased a little. It is difficult to say whether this was because the eTampere programme managed to reach its aims or because people were initially overly cautious and suspicious of the new initiative.
